My seed order arrived in the mail today, and along with it my garden dreams started to grow. I’ve been going through the motions of getting the garden started because I know I have to at this time of year, but I haven’t felt the *spark* and the energy that it takes to create and nurture a proper kitchen garden until now. I’ve been a little busy watching the chicken eggs warm up in the incubator, unpacking the house, teaching my kids how to add, and stuff like that.
I know where the garden will go, and I think I have a good idea of where the sun will fall on it during the year. I ordered seeds from Johnny’s last week – only seeds that can be direct seeded into the ground. Maybe a very few will spend a short time in a sunny window first. I don’t see myself starting seeds on a grand scale this year. Local transplants will look lovely in my garden this year and will grow well.
Next up: Plan out where everything will grow and how much space I will need. I see some fun evenings with the gardening books coming up.
In addition to the bounty that is sure to come from our community garden up the road, this year I’m growing from seed at home:
Yellow Crookneck Squash
Patty Pan Squash
Carrots – a few different kinds
And flowers! I love me a colorful flower garden. Can’t wait to start dreaming about petals and pollen.
