Spring fever!

The snow is melting, the ground is thawing, the air is warming up, the sun is climbing higher in the sky every day. Spring fever hit us today! Outdoor work and play dominated our schedule. It feels good.

Update on Egg Candling

We made a candler out of a painting lamp and an oatmeal container. It works, but unfortunately we couldn’t see much in the eggs the other night. It’s too soon to candle them. We’ll try again this week and if I have any conclusive results I’ll share them with you. I’ll also show you our candler!

We have an egg candler that belonged to Faith Newell. It operates on kerosene, which produces a small flame. The viewing screen is mica I think. Are you interested?

Thanks Dick! We made one out of an oatmeal container. I think it will work for now… but maybe in the future we could try Faith’s. Kerosene? A flame? I’m not so sure it’s “me-proof”! Here is the news about the candler we made: http://thevillagehomestead.com/candled-the-eggs/
